The Village of Wauneta has been using natural weed control methods along the Frenchman River for some time now. Goats owned by Bruce and Larry Peterson keep vegetation along the river in check. Village Superintendent Bill Bischoff said the Village used to do controlled burns to manage the vegetation, but the burns did not always clear up all of the reeds. The goats take care of the vegetation and the weeds. Two Great Pyrenees dogs keep an eye out for the goats and protect them from natural predators.
