|Driver charged in death of Fanning|

Twenty-one-year-old Cody Barnes of Elwood was charged with manslaughter in the death of Cody Fanning when he fell from the back of Barnes’ pickup near their college.
The charge is a class three felony and carries a possible sentence of one to 20 years imprisonment and/or up to a $25,000 fine.
Crete police report that Fanning was standing in the bed of a pickup driven by Barnes when he fell from the truck as it turned a corner in Crete during the early morning hours of April 25.
Barnes and the other passengers in the pickup placed Fanning back into the pickup and transported him to the Crete hospital. He was later transported to BrianLGH hospital in Lincoln. Fanning was pronounced dead.
Barnes and Fanning attended Doane College and were teammates on the football team.
Barnes was arraigned on Tuesday after the deadline to include the results in this edition of the Breeze.
