This week Hamlet, Palisade, Culbertson, Hayes Center and Haigler received “in-lieu of tax” payments from Southwest Public Power District totaling $76,131.60.
The customers in these communities are served directly by SWPPD. Payments are 5 percent of the 2011 electric sales within the incorporated villages.
Tax payments were $2,386.40 on Hamlet sales, $17,918.01 on Palisade sales, $36,699.82 on Culbertson sales, $11,460.23 on Hayes Center sales and $7,667.14 on Haigler sales.
Tax payments are divided between the villages, counties and school districts based on the ratio established by their individual tax levies each year. In 2012 approximately 24.4 percent of the money went to the villages, 19.9 percent to the counties and 55.7 percent to the school districts.
