Five RPAC bands came together last week at a band clinic hosted by W-P at the Wauneta Attendance Center. Bands from Dundy County-Stratton, Hayes Center, Hitchcock County, Southwest and Wauneta-Palisade were in attendance.
According to W-P’s band teacher Aaron Behrends, “The band clinic gives our students a chance to cooperate rather than compete. They get to work together with students from other schools and with a college conductor. It’s a great experience.”
Over 125 junior and senior high school students participated in the half day long clinic. The day gave band members an opportunity to work under a different conductor and to play with a new and expanded group.
Dr. Michael R. Beard was guest conductor for the clinic. Dr. Beard is a faculty member at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and has appeared as a guest conductor in Ireland, England, France, Latvia, Norway and in Chicago, Ill.
The day closed with a public performance. Each band performed individually at the public showing and then came together as a group to perform several pieces.
