The Wauneta Breeze
The generosity of the community members, near and far, have surpassed this first hurdle toward the purchase of the Wauneta nursing home by exceeding the goal of $225,000 in private donations.
This goal has been exceeded through donations ranging from a few dollars to several thousand. All donations have made a difference in this effort to save the nursing home.
Donations to help save the Wauneta nursing home continue to trickle in. Thanks to the outpouring of support from local residents and those with ties to Wauneta, contributions of all sizes have combined for a total of $233,300 as of Tuesday morning.
This total now surpasses the revised goal of $225,000, upped from the original $150,000 made by nursing home organizers. The Village board has not yet determined how the excess funds will be used. Organizers have said that the excess will be used to help with unexpected expenses, to help lessen the debt or for nursing home reserve funds.
The donated funds along with the funds supplied from other sources will be used to purchase the nursing home from Vetter Health Services and to make mandated upgrades to the nursing home facility. If for some reason the project does not go forward organizers have stated that funds will be returned to their donors.
Vetter Health Services has stated that they plan to cease operation of the Wauneta nursing home on June 30, 2012. The Village of Wauneta hopes to take over operation and ownership of the facility on July 1, 2012.
