The Red Willow County Household Hazardous Waste Program and Southwest Nebraska RC&D has scheduled collection events in southwest Nebraska to help local residents dispose of potentially hazardous household products at no charge.
Collection events will be held on March 24 in Cambridge, Arapahoe, Beaver City, Oxford, Hayes Center, Palisade, Stratton and Trenton, and on March 31 for Grant, Benkelman, Haigler, Imperial and Wauneta.
Items accepted include cleaning chemicals, yard and garden chemicals, used motor oil, batteries, paint. They will not accept appliances, tires or construction waste.
Materials should be delivered to the collection site in sturdy, disposable containers labeled according to the contents and no larger than five gallons or 50 lbs. HHW program personnel reserve the right to reject any materials.
Resources for this collection event are provided by Red Willow County Household Hazardous Waste Program, Western Rural Fire District HazMat Team, and local volunteers with coordination provided by Southwest Nebraska RC&D.
Disposal expenses are provided by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality—Waste Reduction and Recycling program.
