The Wauneta Breeze
The generosity and dedication to the Heritage of Wauneta nursing home by Waunetans and expatriates has been felt by all in the past year since Vetter Health Services (VHS) announced their plans to sell or close Wauneta’s nursing home.
Earlier this year, the village board set a goal of $150,000, later raised to $225,000, needed to be raised in order for the Village to purchase the nursing home.
The generosity of Waunetans has been felt and seen. As of Tuesday morning, $231,900 has been raised to support the nursing home efforts.
In the past week the Village has received two generous donations which helped push the effort over the goal of $225,000. Jim and Sharri Baldinado and the Home Agency called the Village last Thursday after receiving their copy of the Breeze and pledged to donate the $5,185 then needed to meet the $225,000 goal. The Hamlet Union Church also made a generous donation of $5,000 pushing the effort past the goal.
Nursing home organizers were working to raise $225,000 in private donations to help cover a portion of the anticipated $800,000 needed to purchase the nursing home facility from VHS and cover initial operating costs including bed licenses and mandated updates to the facility.
Together, Waunetans, past Waunetans, area businesses, organizations and foundations have come together and accomplished what was needed for the community, residents and staff of Wauneta’s nursing home.
