The race for District #1 county commissioner has strong interest. In addition to incumbent commissioner Chuck Vette, three others have filed—Theodore Brewer, Gary Grimes and Bill Greeley.
Since it is a partisan office, only one winner for each party advances to the General Election as that party’s nominee, Clark said. Since all four filing for commissioner are Republicans, only one will advance from the May 15 Primary. It was incorrect in last week’s story that two would advance.
Voters in Chase County will be voting on the hospital district dissolution issue at the May Primary, when two hospital district board members will also be elected.
And, the Primary will also feature party nominations for U.S. President, U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
Third District Republican Congressman Adrian Smith, whose district includes Chase County, will have a Republican Primary opponent in Bob Lingenfelter of Plainview, who filed last week. There is also Democrat Mark Sullivan of Doniphan running. Only one from each party will advance to November.
Another local race that has strong interest is that for the Imperial city council. Two more Imperial residents filed for the pair of open city council seats before last week’s March 1 non-incumbent filing deadline.
Joe Weiss and Dan Thompson both filed for council on Feb. 29, according to County Clerk/Election Commissioner Debbie Clark.
They will join incumbent Sue Moore and Junior Reeder, who filed for council earlier for a total of four seeking the two council seats.
All four will advance directly to the General Election in November.
Here is the full slate of local filings received by the clerk’s office as of the March 1 non-incumbent deadline.
Candidates for the Imperial Public Power District Board, Southwest Public Power District Board, Wauneta Village Board and Lamar Village Board have summer filing deadlines.
