The Imperial Republican

About the only local office seeing a lot of real interest this election season is the District 1 county commissioner seat.

A fourth filing for the office was received at the county clerk’s office this week.

Bill Greeley of rural Imperial joined three others in the race, including incumbent commissioner Chuck Vette of Wauneta. Two others from Wauneta, Theodore Brewer and Gary Grimes, have also filed.

All are registered Republicans, so there will be a runoff at the May Primary, when the group is narrowed to two.

Another new filing came in the past week for the Chase County Hospital District Board.

Suzanne Kinner of rural Imperial filed for the hospital district board, joining incumbent William Bauerle and new candidate Merrilyn Leibbrandt, both of Imperial, for the two open seats.

With just a day remaining for filings, school boards in Imperial and Wauneta have fewer filings than seats open on their boards.

Chase County Schools has five seats open, but only four had filed. The Wauneta-Palisade board has three open seats with just one filing as of late Tuesday.

However, according to Chase County Clerk/Election Commissioner Debbie Clark, W/P board incumbent John Jutten has filed an affidavit for write-in votes for that board. He had not filed by the incumbent deadline Feb. 15.

No one has filed for the open District 1 Upper Republican NRD Board seat which is in Dundy County.

The filing deadline for non-incumbent candidates arrives today (Thursday), March 1. The Chase County Clerk’s Office will remain open until 5 p.m. MT Thursday.

Here is the full slate of filings received by the clerk’s office as of mid-afternoon Tuesday.
