The Wauneta-Palisade girls JV basketball team wrapped up their season with a second place finish at the Dundy County Stratton JV Tournament Saturday.

The Lady Broncos started its day with a win over Hayes Center, 29-22. Wauneta-Palisade jumped out to a 9-0 lead at the end of the first quarter behind five points from Sydnee Harchelroad and four from Cassidy Rathe. Rathe and Nicole Strand each made baskets in the second quarter and Hannah Nordhausen nailed a three to give the Lady Broncos a 16-10 lead at halftime.

Brianna Einspahr got in on the act after intermission scoring six of the teams’ last eight points and finishing with seven for the game. Harchelroad added four, giving her a team leading nine points in the game. Rathe finished the game with eight total points. Nordhausen had 3 and Strand had 2 Wauneta-Palisade shot four free throws, making one.

Large led Hayes Center with seven points. The Lady Cardinals made eight of thirteen free throws.

Wauneta-Palisade lost to host Dundy Co.-Stratton in the championship game 29-25.

The Lady Broncos were behind 6-3 at the end of the first quarter after only managing a basket by Strand and one free throw by Einspahr. The offense improved in the second quarter. Einspahr made two free throws in two attempts. Rathe added to the total with a conventional three point play and Leiauna Alberts chipped in a bucket making it 14-12 at halftime.

Einspahr made three straight baskets after intermission on her way to 11 points in the contest. Strand made another basket and Harchelroad added a free throw, but Wauneta-Palisade still trailed by two, 23-21, after three quarters of action.Strand scored all four of the Lady Broncos points in the fourth quarter while the team allowed the Lady Tigers six points. Strand finished the game with eight points. Rathe finished with three points, Alberts two points and Harchelroad one point.

Wauneta-Palisade made five-of-six from the charity stripe.
