Generous contributions from individuals, businesses, organizations and foundations are helping Wauneta near the $200,000 mark as the town pulls together to save the local nursing home.
As of Tuesday morning, $178,061 had been received at the Wauneta Village Office, including a recent $10,000 donation made by Brian Harchelroad, Eddie Nichols and Tony Cribelli on behalf of the Wauneta Medical Clinic board.
Additional funds will soon be forthcoming, with members of the Wauneta Community Foundation Fund board last week voting to grant $10,000 to the project from the WCFF general fund.
Some supporters are opting to utilize the local foundation in making their contributions to the nursing home effort, with $1,000 received by the WCF which will be added to the $178,000 already in hand at the Village Office.
In addition, the Frenchman Valley Development Corporation board members have voted to allocate $10,000 to the nursing home project once the property has been acquired by the Village of Wauneta.
Organizers are working to raise $225,00 in donations to help cover a portion of the projected $800,000 needed to purchase the facility and required bed licenses as well as cover initial operating costs and make mandated upgrades.
If you would like to make a contribution to the effort to save Wauneta’s nursing home you can send your contribution to The Wauneta Village Office, P.O. Box 95 Wauneta, NE 69045, with Nursing Home noted on the memo line, or you can make a contribution via credit card by going online to www.savewaunetanursinghome.com.
