With only two games left before the D2-9 Subdistrict Tournament rolls around, the Wauneta-Palisade girls’ basketball team picked up a win over Medicine Valley Thursday night.

The Lady Broncos defeated the winless Lady Raiders 37-13.

Abbie Fanning made three baskets in the first quarter sandwiched around a three-pointer by Emma Skelton. Christner rounded out scoring in the quarter with a three-pointer with less than a minute left as the Lady Broncos opened up a 14-0 lead.

Medicine Valley’s cold shooting rubbed off on the Lady Broncos in the second quarter. The teams played four minutes before Christner scored two baskets around a Lady Raider free throw.

Christner scored all six of Wauneta-Palisade’s second quarter points and the team headed into intermission leading 20-4.

Medicine Valley opened the second half scoring a basket on its first possession. Brooklyn Nordhausen answered off an assist from Fanning. After a Lady Raider free throw, Nordhausen again found the bottom of the net. Medicine Valley more than doubled its first half output with a basket to make the score 24-9 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Broncos found its shooting touch in the fourth quarter. Fanning opened the quarter with a basket and then a steal and a lay up. Christner’s two free throws and a three-pointer by Sydnee Harchelroad opened up a 31-9 lead before Medicine Valley could get on the board.

Medicine Valley scored its four fourth quarter points around another steal and lay up by Fanning. After a Christner basket off an assist from Lee, Nicole Strand scored off of an offensive rebound to make the final score 37-13.

Christner led the Lady Broncos with 13 points. Fanning also finished in double figures with ten points. Nordhausen added four points while Harchelroad and Skelton each scored three. Nicole Strand and Lee finished the night with two points each.

Medicine Valley was led by Shaylee Schroeder and Taylor Sandoe with five points each.
