The RPAC Basketball Tournament kicked off in Trenton Saturday night with the Wauneta-Palisade boys and girls teams picking up wins over Wallace.

The Lady Broncos got the night off on the right foot by picking up the 44-31 win.

Wauneta-Palisade trailed throughout the first quarter. After Wallace scored the contest’s first basket, Sheyla Christner drove coast-to-coast to put the Lady Broncos on the board. Wallace took a 6-2 lead before Emma Skelton’s three-pointer brought the game to within one. The Wildcats scored four more points in the quarter while Christner made two free throws and hit a bucket to keep the Lady Broncos within one, 9-10, at the end of the first eight minutes.

The Lady Broncos took its first lead of the game when Sydnee Harchelroad made a layup early in the second quarter. After Wallace’s answer, Wauneta-Palisade took the lead for good on a three pointer by Abbie Fanning. The Wildcats didn’t score again in the half. The Lady Broncos picked up points on a Christner turn-around jumper and basket by Tailor Lee off an inbounds pass. Fanning, Lee and Brooklyn Nordhausen each hit one-of-two free throws to put Wauneta-Palisade up 21-12 at intermission.
