Jo Ann Ward, a member of Palisade American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 318, attended the Department of Nebraska’s 79th annual Mid-Year Conference in Norfolk, Neb., Jan. 13-15.
While there she had the opportunity to attend the Oratorical Contest for high school students. The winner was awarded a $1,000 scholarship and the chance to advance to regional competition. National Vice President Peggy Thomas of Virginia was a note speaker, as was Charlotte Endorff, an authority on the orphan trains that brought the precious cargo of children to the plains of Nebraska from New York City in 1854-1929.
Approximately 300 men and women attended the Conference of the American Legion Auxiliary and SAL.
