Life is like Arithmetic…Friends added, Enemies subtracted, Joys multiplied, and Errors divided. May the upcoming new year add new Friends and Old Friends remember you, Your Enemies be subtracted, Errors forgotten, New friends added to your life of all good memories, Hopes for all your dreams added to this coming new year of 2012.


Bacon Wrapped D’oeuvres

Graham crackers or club


Brown sugar

Use the rectangular sections of graham crackers or club. Wrap 1 slice bacon lengthwise loose ends down in a 9 x 13-inch pan, sprinkle brown sugar on each. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 min. Cool slightly and serve on a tray.


Filled celery ­— Trim ends and leaves off. Crisp in ice water. Dry with paper towel, cut into 2-3 inch pieces, fill with peanut butter, cream cheese, cheese whiz or fillings below and garnish with pimento, paprika, almond slivers, olive slices, grated cheese, nuts and etc.

Or top with the following combinations:


3 oz. cream cheese

1/2 c. sm. toasted almonds

1 tbsp. chili sauce

1/2 tsp. curry powder

Dash of salt

Zesty Cheese

1/2 c. grated sharp cheddar

2 tbsp. mayo

1 1/2 tsp. mustard with horseradish

1/8 tsp. paprika

Salmon Mix

l can 7.5-oz. salmon drained, flaked

1/2 c. sour cream

1/4 c. minced onions

1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice

1/4 tsp. salt

1/8 tsp. fresh ground white pepper


2 ripe avocados, peel & mash

1/2 c. minced onion

2 tbsp. lemon juice

1 tsp. salt

3-4 drops Tabasco

1 c. peeled, seeded, chopped tomatoes

Cream Cheese

2 lg. pkg. cream cheese

1/4 c. mayonnaise

3 tbsp. half and half cream

1 sm. onion mix

Top with pinches of 1/4 c. grated yellow cheese.


I wondered why someone did not do something thoughtful....

Easy Chili for the

cold evenings

Nola’s Collection

1 tsp. vegetable oil

1 lb. lean ground beef

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cans condensed tomato soup

1 c. water


Black pepper

Chili powder

Shredded cheese to garnish

Heat oil in lg. skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef and onion. Cook and stir until beef is well browned. Drain off excess fat. Put meat mixture and water in crock-pot slow cooker. Add salt, pepper and chili powder to taste. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours. It could cook for up to 8 hours. Garnish with shredded cheese and serve with crackers or thick slices of Italian bread.

SO-good Roast

Nola’s Collection

1 3-5 lb. beef chuck shoulder roast

1 10 3/4 oz. can condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted

1 1-oz. pack dry onion soup mix

5 medium potatoes quartered

4 c. baby carrots

Place roast in crock-pot slow cooker. If necessary, cut roast in pieces to fit in the cooker. Combine mushroom soup and onion soup mix in medium bowl. Pour over roast. Cover; cook on low for 4 hours. Add potatoes and carrots. Cover and cook on low for two more hours.
