A tree will be available at the Valley Bank and Trust in Wauneta and at a location in Palisade at the Pioneer Community Farmers Credit Union.
Each tree will be decorated with angels on which will be listed gift suggestions for a boy or girl who may otherwise not receive a gift for Christmas. The trees will be in place by Dec. 9 with the gift giving project coordinated by the United Methodist Church.
Picture-perfect day for Thanksgiving
Western Nebraska was treated to unseasonably mild weather last week, just in time for Thanksgiving.
Daytime highs in the low 70s were widespread across the region on Thanksgiving Day, Overnight lows dipped into the 20s. Friday brought mild conditions as well, with highs in the upper 50s and low 60s. High winds on Saturday brought an end to the summer-like feel of things, with highs in the 40s and lows in the teens.
Warm weather greeted the start of the week, but Nebraskans are being warned to batten down the hatches by Thursday when winter is expected to force its way onto the scene in tandem with the flip of the calendar to December.
After another great day on Wednesday, snow and cold temperatures are forecast for the rest of the week into next week, with highs not expected to climb out of the 30s and single-digit lows likely.
