Thursday night Oct. 20, the Wauneta-Palisade volleyball girls hosted the Lady Raiders of Medicine Valley, handing the Raiders a loss in three straight sets 25-22, 25-23 and 25-20.
Both teams came out with tough net play with WP’s Tailor Lee, Jonee Maris and Brooklyn Nordhausen slamming and jamming and digs by Brianna Einspahr and Sydnee Harchelroad.
Coach Harchelroad showed confidence in her substitutions of younger players at critical times. Continued play by Emma Skelton, Cassidy Rathe and Abbie Fanning made a game of the Raiders’ hard driven serves.
With this win the Broncos now gear up for the final two games of their regular season against Wallace played Tuesday and on the road Friday against North Platte St. Pat’s beginning at 4:30 p.m. MT/5:30 p.m. CT.
Monday the Broncos enter post-season play at Grant in the D2-10 sub-districts.
Several younger members on the Bronco bench saw court time during the Broncos’ varsity match against Medicine Valley. Freshman setter Christi Christner puts the ball into play as No. 24 Abbie Fanning and No.14 Tayler Nordhausen watch intently from the back row.
The Bronco jayvees took third place at the 9/10 tournament in Benkelman on Saturday, defeating a McCook ninth grade team 25-8, 25-20 and Dundy County-Stratton 25-17, 25-14, but falling in a close match to the Chase County Longhorns 11-25, 24-26.
