The Wauneta-Palisade Bronco volleyball team rebounded from a pair of losses to Southwest and Chase County earlier last week to pull off a four-set win at Haxtun Friday night.
Broncs take Southwest to four
The Southwest Roughriders came to Wauneta-Palisade looking like C-2 contenders. The Broncs dropped the first set, 14-25, but came back strong in the second set, claiming a 26-24 win to take the set. The Broncs couldn’t maintain the momentum built in the second set, dropping the next two sets to the Roughriders, 13-25 and 8-25.
Tailor Lee led the scoring with 10 points, including an ace on a 16-17 serving effort. She also added three kills on a 25-33 effort at the net.
Sheyla Christner followed with seven points including a pair of aces on a 12-12 effort at the serving line. She also had a pair of kills.
Emma Skelton and Sydnee Harchelroad handled the setting duties with Skelton setting up 64 attacks and Harchelroad 42. Brooklyn Nordhausen led the team in blocks with five, including three ace blocks.
The Broncos traveled to Imperial Thursday, Sept. 15 for a matchup with the Lady Longhorns. Thursday night wasn’t what the Broncs was hoping for, dropping three straight sets, 14-25, 9-25 and 6-25. Coach Michelle Harchelroad tried to mix things up in the third set by bringing in her jayvees.
Sydnee Harchelroad was the leading varsity scorer with three points. Jonee Maris led the hitting with nine attacks. Nordhausen added a pair of ace blocks.
