Cody Fanning, linebacker at Doane College, has been named this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Fanning, a junior from Wauneta, sparked the Tiger defense in their 20-8 upset of #16 Northwestern. He put the Tigers on the board with a 16-yard interception return for a touchdown. Fanning chased down a punt and downed it at the one yard line which led to one of two safeties on the day for the Tiger defense. He also added a pass break up and five total tackles as Doane defeated a ranked team for the first time since 2002. Doane will play their rival, Nebraska Wesleyan, in Lincoln on Saturday.
