The Wauneta Breeze
Monday will mark the start of Homecoming Week at Wauneta-Palisade and plans are falling into place to make this year’s homecoming a community-wide event.
Former Wauneta, Palisade and Hamlet high school students are being asked to dig into their closets for all the old Bronco and Panther sporting and cheerleading gear they can find — uniforms, jerseys, letter jackets, team sweats and T-shirts, etc.
Plans call for community members to wear their gear to the afternoon pep rally plan-ned for Friday, Sept. 30, in downtown Wauneta.
If, like most of us, they find their old high school gear no longer fits, they are asked to share the item with a WP student of their choice or loan it to the school to pass along to a student for the pep rally
If you have extra gear you can loan to the school to match up with a student you can contact Keri Sutherland in Wauneta at 394-5663 or Patty Anderjaska in Palisade at 285-3404.
Businesses are asked to get in the spirit of Homecoming Week by decorating their businesses to match the retro sporting theme of the pep rally.
Tentative plans are in place to have this year’s crowning of the homecoming king and queen held during Friday afternoon’s pep rally instead of after the football game.
A community tailgate party at the WP Ag Shop is planned Monday evening to kick off the week’s events. The hamburger and hotdog tailgate supper will begin at 6 p.m. MT/7 p.m. CT followed by spirit boosting activities Monday, Sept. 26.
Friday, Sept. 30, the Bronco volleyball and football teams host the Wallace Wildcats.
