Months of hard work and preparation undertaken by 4-H youngsters were on full display last week during the Chase County Fair in Imperial. Above, Colby Hoskovec, 7, of rural Wauneta gets his official participant number pinned to his shirt by his mom, Julie, as little sister Kalli, 4, waits patiently for the 4-H Beef Show to begin. Colby participated in the Clover Kids Bucket Calf division with his calf, “Lucky.” When the judge asked young Hoskovec how his calf got that name, Colby drew smiles and laughter when he replied, “cuz he’s lucky to be alive.”
Caid Doetker, 11, of Wauneta gives his show steer one last washing before it’s time to enter the ring. Caid earned 1st Purple in Class 2 of Junior Showmanship, garnering a trip back into the ring as one of the top eight juniors. Brady Gittlein of rural Wauneta was named the Grand Champion Junior Showman with Sydney Vetter of Imperial named Reserve Champion.
A special section with complete 4-H and open class results will be included in the Sept. 1 issue of The Wauneta Breeze and The Imperial Republican.
