The Nebraska School Activities Association’s Board of Directors voted 8-0 at its August meeting Tuesday to award the 2012 and 2013 state volleyball tournaments to Grand Island. Lincoln, which hosted state volleyball from 1981 to 2009, also put in a bid. The proposal, however, did not include the use of the NU Coliseum (home of the Husker volleyball team) or the Devaney Sports Center, and that was a factor in the board’s decision. Concerns about the condition of an aging Pershing Center played a part in the board moving state volleyball to Grand Island for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Pershing remained the centerpiece facility of Lincoln’s latest bid. |
