Another hot weekend forecasted with Harvest Fest here

Don’t forget to put on some sunscreen when you head out the door to one of the many Harvest Fest events this weekend. Meteorologists are predicting hot weather.

A high of 92° on Friday will feel pleasant, as temperatures climb toward 97° on Saturday. The 100° mark is likely to be hit on Sunday.

There is little rain in the forecast, although weathermen are giving a 30 percent chance of rain and isolated thunderstorms on Friday. The rest of the weekend is expected to be clear and hot.


Join friends for dinner at the Senior Center tonight (Thursday)

Got an appetite? Meet your friends down at the Wauneta Senior Center tonight (Thursday) for a pancake supper, with sausage and eggs, too.

Free will donations are being accepted at the door.


Chateau Theatre to show special matinée tomorrow (Friday)

With Harvest Fest events as the center of attention this weekend in Wauneta, movie times have been moved to accommodate the festivities.

Friday’s showing of the animated movie “Cars 2” will play at 1 p.m. MT at the Chateau Theatre. The Saturday night show is also changed, as it’s been pushed back one hour to 8 p.m. MT.

Sunday evening’s showtime will in the normal 7 p.m. time slot.


Sweet Shop hosting Sunday dinner

Come enjoy roast beef, mashed potatoes, a full salad bar and more this Sunday when the Sweet Shop hosts an all you can eat buffet in downtown Wauneta.

The dinner starts at 10:30 a.m. MT, and costs $8.95. Make reservations by calling 308-350-0199.


Wauneta United Methodist Church’s Vacation Bible School is approaching

Kids age 4 up to sixth grade are invited to come to the Methodist Church’s Vacation Bible School this year. The event runs from 4 p.m. MT to 6 p.m., August 1-4.

Bible stories, crafts, skits, games and songs will all be part of the fun.

Frenchman Valley Baptist Church Vacation Bible School, too

Kids from kindergarten through sixth grade are welcome to join in the fun at this year’s Frenchman Valley Baptist Church Vacation Bible School.

Located at the southeast corner of the Wauneta Park, the event runs from 9:30 a.m. MT to 12:30 p.m. Games, music, crafts, drawings and prizes will all be part of the fun.

Hayes County Fair starts next week

Chase County’s friendly neighbors to the east will kick off their annual county fair on Monday, Aug. 1.

The fair is held in Hayes Center from Aug.1-7. Street dance entertainment includes the music of Lincoln Highway Band on Saturday night, starting at 9 p.m. MT/10 p.m. CT.


Solo drama ministry coming to Hamlet Union Church on Aug. 14

People are invited to attend a morning of praise and testimony from Dr. Rich Studebaker at Hamlet Union Church on Sunday, Aug. 14.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. MT/7:30 p.m. CT, and also includes a play.

Dr. Studebaker has a Ph.D. in Theology and has been an ordained minister in the Missionary Church for over 20 years.
