The return of Rancher’s Holiday is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13 at Bentz Valley Inc. in Chase County. Registration will begin at 12:30 pm (MDT) at one of John Maddux’s pastures, located three miles north and two miles east of Imperial, NE.
Topics for this year’s presentations include:
“Preparing for the Next Drought” by Jerry Volesky, UN-L WCREC, Range and Forage Systems Specialist
“Prescribed Fire: My goals for Burning” by John Maddux
“Prescribed Fire for Vegetation Improvement” by Doug Whisenhunt, NRCS State Prescribed Burn Specialist
“Monitoring to Measure Vegetation Improvement” by Kort Kemp, NRCS Range Management Specialist
“Weed Management in Rangeland” by Steve Young, UN-L WCREC Weed Ecologist
“Cost-Share Programs for Ranchers” by Nadine Bishop (NRCS), Nate Jenkins (NRD), and TJ Walker or Justin Harr (Game and Parks)
“Cost of Production” by Robert Tigner, Extension Educator, SW Four CES
Following the presentations, a supper will be served.
Registration is $15 per person and includes an information packet and supper. This fee can be paid the day of the meeting. However, please RSVP by July 8 to the Imperial NRCS office to guarantee your meal.
Directions to the starting point are as follows: From Imperial, go two miles north on Hwy 61. Turn east on County Rd 740. Travel two miles east and turn north on Ave. 335. Go just over one mile north. The turn off will be clearly marked on the east side of the road.
