Sheriff’s Office receives grant for in-car cameras

The Chase County Sheriff’s Office is receiving grant funding assistance for obtaining two in-car camera systems, according to Fred Zwonechek, administrator for the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.

“This highway safety grant funding in the amount of $6,592 will aid the Chase County Sheriff’s Office in purchasing two camera systems,” Zwonechek said.

Nebraska has once again qualified for highway safety alcohol incentive funds. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety has utilized this funding to aid local area law enforcement in obtaining in-car cameras and alcohol testing equipment used to assist in the apprehension and conviction of drinking drivers.

“This funding and the ongoing persistence of law enforcement personnel continues to impact alcohol-related crashes and the resulting injuries and fatalities,” Zwonechek said.

Cemetery clean-up planned next week

Crew members from the Village of Wauneta will be trimming and mowing at Wauneta’s Riverside Cemetery the week of June 27.

Those who have placed flowers and decorations around the headstones on the ground are asked to have them removed by June 27 — flowers in holders located on the headstones will not be disturbed.

Any items not removed by June 27 will be disposed of to allow the crew to mow the cemetery.

The Village is not responsible for damage of loss of decorations during ground maintenance.

For more information contact the Village Office at 394-5390.
