Windy weather and a late evening shower wasn’t enough to put a damper on the 2011 edition of Palisade Pioneer Days.
The official total of those who registered at the village office before the parade was 265. This year’s traveling prize went to Rachel Magorrian, who traveled roughly 5,500 miles from Northern Ireland for the community celebration.

Elizabeth Gruhn, of Grand Island, reels in a new toy at the kids’ game area in downtown Palisade last Saturday. Gruhn is the granddaughter of Monte and Karleen Cooper, of Palisade, and the daughter of the late Peanut Gruhn.
Coy Hale grabs a bean bag and takes his best shot at a chance to win a prize at Pioneer Days last Saturday.
Valerie Hunt Leach, at far left, reaches into this Chevy Chevelle, driven by Tom Lawritson, to grab some candy from friend Shelby Dike.
Justin Huston, of the Palisade Rural Fire Department, rode at the front of this fire truck during last Saturday’s Palisade Pioneer Days Parade. Although 265 people registered at the Palisade Village Office Saturday morning before the parade, dozens more flocked to the streets to see their favorite vintage cars, hot rods and floats.
