FFA, park benefit from Breeze award funds
The Wauneta Breeze announced this week that a total of $400 awarded to the local newspaper during its annual press convention this spring has been disbursed to the community.
The Breeze captured the top prize in its circulation in two contests sponsored by the Omaha World Herald, capturing the Service to Agriculture Award and the Community Service Award, both of which carry $200 cash awards.
The $200 Service to Agriculture award was presented by the Breeze to the Wauneta-Palisade FFA program to be used as Chapter Adviser Dan Andrews and FFA members choose.
The $200 cash prize which accompanied the Community Service Award was presented to the Village of Wauneta to help fund park improvements planned in memory of former Village Board member and community volunteer Ted Grimm.
Imperial’s Celebration in the Square Saturday
This Saturday marks the 20th year of Celebration on the Square, formerly known as Art in the Park. As always, it will be held on the Chase County Courthouse lawn Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Coordinator Jill Moline said that as of Monday there were about 20 vendors lined up, selling jewelry, Mary Kay and Avon cosmetics, blankets, candles, purses, Tupperware, crafts, Creative Memories and plants.
In addition, there will be several bake sales, and the Chase County Schools cheerleaders will have a food booth.
Moline said there is plenty of room and more vendors are always welcome. Space is free.
Daniel Christian of Omaha, a singer-songwriter, will provide entertainment from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Moline said.
Christian has won two National Country Music Festival Awards, and has performed on cruise ships, at Disneyland and in Nashville’s renowned Bluebird Cafe.
In addition, children will be able to get a free thrill in the bouncy house.
Celebration on the Square is sponsored by the Chase County Tourism Committee.
