Flowers to plant make me happy… it always adds spark to the yard to have the pops of colorful plants. It is easier to have the wind shelter of town to protect the plants. It is however helpful to have different heights of containers to help confuse the wind source. Different trees and bushes help strain and slow the flow of wind as well as the farm buildings.

I have never been a master gardener. . . But would love to know more than I do. Mother had a natural instinct to raise her flowers.

Tater Tot Casserole

Norma’s collection

1 lb. ground beef

1/2 c. chopped onion

1 pkg. mild taco seasoning

2/3 c. water

1 - 16 oz. bag Tater Tots

1 can cream of chicken soup

1 bag cheddar

Cook beef with onion. Add taco mix and water. Put in casserole. Mix remaining ingredients and top meat mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 min.

Vanilla Hot Chocolate

Nola’s Collection

3 tbsp. cocoa

1/3 c. sugar

1/8 tsp. salt

1/2 c. warm water

Mix dry ingredients together; blend in water. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 3 min.

1 quart milk

Add milk, stir and heat. Do not allow to boil. Just heat to steaming.

Add 1/2 tsp. vanilla

You will never regret the time to talk and laugh with your children and their friends. It is good for all of your souls.

Substitute for Sour Milk Norma’s Collection

Dip for Crackers

Nola’s Collection

16 oz. sour cream

2 c. shredded cheese

1/4 c. Bacon Bits

1 pkg. ranch dressing mix

Quick Cheese Spread

Nola’s Collection

8 oz. cream cheese spread, softened

8 oz. Velveeta, softened

1/2 tsp. garlic salt

A little Seasoned Salt

Beat softened cheeses together. Stir in seasoned salt and garlic salt. Serve on crackers. Can spread on crackers to make snack sandwiches to help little ones to sit still through church or school meetings.

Special Cup of Coffee

Norma’s Collection

1/2 c. whipping cream

2 tbsp. hot chocolate mix

Cinnamon, if desired

Beat together until soft peaks form. Spoon over cups of hot coffee and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Harry and I enjoy taking a minute or two for a cup of something on the front step and watching the traffic go by on nice days.

Mabel Scriven advised us girls: the most important thing you can do for your marriage is to get up and fix breakfast before your husband leaves for work and sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee together. She imposed much wisdom on those ready to listen.
