The Village of Wauneta has partnered with Southwest Nebraska Community Betterment Corporation this past year to offer the Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program. The program allows income-eligible homeowners a financial resource to complete health and safety renovations to their homes.
Eligible renovations include items such as windows, doors, siding, roofing, heating systems and insulation.
Household income levels determine if the amount of assistance is a “forgivable loan” with no monthly repayment as long as the property is maintained as the clients’ primary residence, or if the loan will be paid back over the next 10 years at zero interest.
In order to reach more households, the Village has partnered with other renovation programs across the state including USDA Rural Development, Assistive Technology Partnership and Mid-Nebraska Community Action Agency.
Families may qualify for assistance from all organizations, allowing extensive renovation projects to be accomplished on their homes.
The Village has set a goal to assist 10 households with these funds. Seven homeowners have taken advantage of the program to date, with funding still available for three more families to receive up to $24,000 in housing renovation assistance.
The Village will continue to accept applications until the funding is exhausted.
