Palisade’s Village-Wide Garage Sales Saturday

It will be a bargain hunter’s hey-day Saturday when Palisade community members kick off their Village-Wide Garage Sales at 7 a.m. MT/8 a.m. CT this Saturday, May 21.

Garage sale flyers identifying garage sale locations will be available as early as Friday and throughout the day on Saturday at the Palisade Post Office, Richard Alan’s Grocery, Palisade Co-op and the Pioneer Cafe.

Organizers say Saturday’s sales will offer something for everyone, with the wide variety of items already listed.

Wauneta’s town-wide garage sales will follow two weeks later, with Wauneta’s planned for Saturday, June 4.

Deadline for Alumni tickets hits Friday

The Alumni Banquet for former students at Wauneta High School and Wauneta-Palisade is coming up Saturday, May 28, and the deadline to purchase banquet tickets hits Friday, May 20.

Tickets are available for $15 at Walgren’s Super Market in Wauneta. You can stop by the store to make your purchase or reserve them by phone by calling 308-394-5203.

The Alumni Banquet will be held at the school gym in Wauneta beginning at 6:30 p.m. MT/7:30 p.m. CT.

Summer reading

“One World, Many Stories” is the theme of this year’s summer reading program offered free of charge at the Wauneta Public Library. The program will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. MT on Wednesday mornings throughout June beginning on June 1. To register your child or for more information call 394-5243 or 394-5797,


Pancake feed, Sunday dinner at Senior Center

Pancakes, sausage and eggs will be served at the Wauneta Senior Center tonight (Thursday). A freewill offering will be accepted for the meal from 5 to 7 p.m. MT.

On Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. MT, roast beef and ham are on the menu. Cost of the meal is $4 for kids ages 9 and younger and $8 for everyone else.


End-of-year events keep WP students busy

Students and staff at Wauneta-Palisade Schools are following a hectic pace as are their families as the race to keep up with the avalanche of end-of-the-school-year events, including:

• State Track Meet, Friday and Saturday, May 20-21, in Omaha.

• Athletic Banquet, Monday, May 23, at 6 p.m. MT/7 p.m. CT at the gym in Wauneta.

• Elementary Field Day, originally scheduled for May 12, was delayed due to cold, wet weather. It will instead be held next week during the last week of school on a day yet to be determined. Lunch-time concessions featuring sloppy joe sandwiches will be served by the Wauneta Chamber of Commerce.

• Last day of school, Thursday, May 26. An early release is planned.

• WP Graduation,

Saturday, May 28, at 10 a.m. MT/11 a.m. at the gym in Wauneta.

• WP Alumni Banquet, Saturday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. MT/7:30 p.m. CT at the gym in Wauneta.

Grave decorations must be removed for clean-up

The Village of Wauneta crew will be mowing and trimming at Wauneta’s Riverside Cemetery in the coming weeks in preparation for Memorial Day.

Everyone is asked to remove flowers and decorations presently in place around headstones or on the ground prior to May 23 when crews expect to begin mowing and trimming.

The Village will dispose of old flowers and decorations not picked up by May 23. The Village will not be held responsible for decorations during ground maintenance.

Flowers in holders on headstones will not be disturbed.
