|LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Gov’t needs to repay what it borrowed|

May I express some opinions about the Social Security issue that is sweeping the nation?
I feel if the Federal government would repay what it borrowed to fund past wars, there would not be a problem. But with the present budget disaster, repayment won’t happen any time soon.
So we need to deal with the funds we have and will receive from workers. I suggest leaving the system as it is, allow workers to retire between 62 and 65. They will continue to have an income to spend and will help our economy keep going.
Now an opening in the job market has been created for a younger person to fill. That younger worker now has a job with money to spend.
That will also help our economy and, hopefully, enable the worker to pay the mortgage on their house. Our economy keeps moving forward, unemployment and social service claims go down, and no one has serious health risks by working past their capabilities. If it works, don’t fix it!
