The time has come, once again, to compete for spots in the many honor choirs put on by various Nebraska Colleges.
This year the students in Wauneta-Palisade’s choir auditioned for two of the most popular honor choirs, UNK and Doane.
Several students were chosen to take part in the UNK choir: William Bartlett and Weylin Davis were chosen to sing in the Festival choir as Tenors, John Christner and Donald Hunt will also sing in the Festival choir as Basses. Taylor Nordhausen, a soprano, was selected to sing in the Women’s Choir and Jenna Jutten, also a soprano, was chosen to participate in the Honor Choir.
The UNK honor choir will be held on January 23 and the Doane honor choir was held on January 10.
The audition process for each of the honor choirs differs greatly. For the Doane honor choir a student is nominated by their choral director and is chosen based on seniority and the choral director’s recommendation.
Jenna Jutten, a senior, was nominated and was the only Wauneta-Palisade student chosen to participate in the Doane honor choir.
For the UNK honor choir the students were required to record a scale and a version of “My Country Tis of Thee” the students were then chosen to participate based solely on their audition recording.
