A Wauneta man has pled guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, a Class 3 felony, and is now in Lincoln at the Diagnostic & Evaluation (D & E) Center.
Myron Redden, 59, was arrested in April by police and sheriff’s deputies after images of child pornography were found on his cell phone being serviced at the Imperial Viaero Wireless store. A store employee called police after the discovery.
The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office handled the case, said County Attorney Arlan Wine, who worked with attorney Jeff Gaertig from that office.
Wine noted Redden pled to the original count of possession of child pornography, after the state threatened to add several additional counts.
According to testimony at Redden’s preliminary hearing in late April, Imperial Police Sgt. Rob Browning estimated there were 65 to 70 total images on Redden’s phone.
The Class 3 felony is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, a $25,000 fine or both.
Redden was transported Oct. 27 to the D & E Center in Lincoln, a part of the Nebraska Department of Corrections, for a 90-day evaluation.
After that, he will return to Chase County District Court for sentencing, probably sometime in early February 2011.
Wine noted a high priority of the Attorney General’s Office has been protection of children from sexual predators. Attorneys from the AG’s office are handling many of these cases for counties, whose attorneys may not be experienced in them.
It was the first possession of child pornography case to come before him in Chase County, Wine said, “so I was happy to have them take the case.”
