The Hitchcock County/Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers are ready to take on the second portion of their season, with action kicking off Saturday at the Dundy County-Stratton Invitational.
Head coach Rich Wilson is excited about what’s in store for the team in upcoming action.
“I really think we have a chance to win the DC Invite,” Wilson said. “We’re all healthy now and we have boys in almost every weight class.”
Adam Simpson, who boasts a stellar 14-1 record on the season, is expected to drop down a weight class to wrestle with the 189-pounders this week.
Cody Fanning, 5-5, will possibly drop down a weight class also, and wrestle at 140.
Wilson also hopes that Austin Oberg, an HC athlete with a 3-7 record, will drop down to the 215-pound weight class, which would fill a void left by Simpson.
HC athlete Alex Pollmann will remain in the 285-pound class where Oberg was and carries an 8-5 record into Saturday’s meet.
Marcos Ramirez, 11-4 in the 112-pound weight class, will remain in his class, as will 9-2 HC athlete James Rundel in the 130-pound class.
Devin Simon will return to action as his cast was recently removed. He posted a 4-3 record in the 125-pound division before his injury sidelined him.
HC’s John Leahy also has an impressive record of 13-3 in the 135-pound division and should be a contender on Saturday for sure.
Both HC’s Christian Sullivent, 3-8, and Will Anderjaska, 6-4, will likely wrestle at 145.
Myles West boasts a 9-6 record in the 152-pound division and HC’s Trent Cook, 9-4, will compete at 160 pounds.
Colby Skelton, with a 5-10 record, will compete in the 171-pound division at the meet.
