RPAC choir clinic and concert set for Monday Wauneta-Palisade choir members will participate in the RPAC-West Vocal Clinic and concert next week in Hayes Center. The clinic and concert are planned for Monday, Feb. 8. The concert is open to the public and will begin at 6 p.m. MT/7 p.m. CT.
RPAC Art Show exhibit on its way to WP Feb. 22-26 The talents of the Wauneta-Palisade art students are on display thanks to a traveling art exhibit traveling across southwest Nebraska. Amanda Johnston, Renae Gardner and Dawnica Adams each had art work selected for the RPAC Art Show, with the exhibit planned to be on display at WP Feb. 22-26. “I was really proud of all my students and their work,” said WP art instructor Avery Bradney. “We have many talented artists and were very competitive within our school.” The annual RPAC Art Contest was held Jan. 20, with judging conducted in an east and a west division. WP competed in the RPAC’s west division along with Paxton, Medicine Valley, Maywood, Hayes Center and Dundy County-Stratton. Four pieces of art from each school were selected as finalists to be included in the traveling exhibit. Amanda Johnston was recognized as the top medalist for WP with an oil painting titled “Around the Corner.” A colored pencil drawing by Johnston titled “Native” earned first honorable mention. Gardner was awarded second honorable mention with a pencil drawing titled “Ashton.” Adams garnered the school’s third honorable mention with a black and white photograph titled “Fallen.” Information will be made available later this month announcing where the RPAC Art Show exhibit will be displayed locally.
VB&T open house to honor Dorothy Gauger on Friday Valley Bank and Trust will host an open house this Friday, Feb. 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. MT honoring Dorothy Gauger who is retiring after more than two decades of service to the local bank. Customers and community members are encouraged to stop by Friday morning to extend warm wishes to Gauger and enjoy the array of refreshments that will be served.
Spelling Bee planned in Palisade on Wednesday This year’s Hayes and Hitchcock County Spelling Bee will be held in Palisade on Wednesday, Feb. 10. The Spelling Bee will begin at noon MT/1 p.m. CT. There will also be no elementary school on this date.
Chase County Spelling Bee coming up next week Qualifying students from Wauneta-Palisade and Chase County Schools in Imperial will put their spelling skills to the test next week as they compete in the annual county spelling bee in Imperial on Thursday, Feb. 11. The contest is open to the public and will be held at the Chase County Schools auditorium beginning at 9 a.m. MT/10 a.m. CT.
Sen. Christensen to speak on water in Imperial Feb. 15 44th District Senator Mark Christensen of Imperial will speak at an informational meeting on water issues Monday, Feb. 15, in Imperial. The event is being sponsored by Lamar Fertilizer Company. It will begin at 1 p.m. at the Crossroads Wesleyan multi-purpose room at 1710 Wesley Drive. The Legislature will be in recess that day for President’s Day, allowing Christensen to address water issues presently before the legislative body and the state.
‘Images of the Land’ art exhibit on display at MCC’s Wrightstone gallery Images of the Land, an exhibition on loan from the Museum of Nebraska Art, is on display at the Wrightstone Gallery on The McCook Community College campus through Feb. 12. This exhibition features interpretations of Nebraska’s landscapes by some of the state’s most prolific and noted artists. The show celebrates Nebraska’s geography and depicts the interesting visual variety and complexities that exist within it. Wrightstone gallery is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday and Tuesday and Thursday evenings until 9 p.m. CT. |
