David and Hans Johnson of Loveland, Colo., were guests of Betty Johnson over the weekend to do some pheasant hunting.
Lisa Harris returned from a trip to Germany where she enjoyed time with her parents, Roger and Peg Minnemann Among the highlights were a side trip to Salzburg, Austria and seeing the Bavarian Alps in Germany.
Thursday visitors of Violet Long were Marvin and Leona Owens of Canon City, Colo. Other guests for supper included Martin and Erma Fortkamp and Rolland Fortkamp.
Ruby Ham left Dec. 1 from McCook and flew to Ontario, Calif., to visit her twin sister, Rilla, and Harrison Miles and families.
Stacey Yost spent Saturday with her grandmother, Irene Johnson, helping with Christmas decorations.
Sharon Haarberg attended a birthday coffee Friday morning in the home of Agatha Brandt for Sharon’s mother, Theone Draper.

Bob Cox retired from the Postal Service Sept. 30 after serving 27 years as a rural mail carrier.
Mr. and Mrs. Kent Buffington and girls entertained family members Sunday in honor of Angi’s 13th birthday and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Buffington’s 48th wedding anniversary, both on Dec. 12. Other guests were the Keith Buffington family. Lori and Lisa were overnight guests of Angi.
Recent visitors of Mrs. Mabel Kohne and grandson David Bird were Mrs. Kohne’s children: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Keith and family of Moreland, Kan., Mrs. Jerry Miller and Amy and Tracie Kohne of Burlington, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Tim Hans of Seward and Mrs. Elaine Bird and girls of Oberlin, Kan. The group enjoyed an early Christmas.
The Garfield Christmas party was held in the home of Mrs. Eleanor Petr Dec. 6. It was also the 20th anniversary of the club. Marilyn O’Neil baked and decorated an anniversary cake for the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hahn of Nederland, Colo., were Monday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. John Sailors.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Litle drove to Denver, Colo., to meet their son, Richard, who flew in from Fort Mead, Md., where he is a records clerk in the army.
Sunday dinner guests in the Merle O’Neil home were Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Fanning and family. The special occasion was the birthday of Normie Fanning.

The Village park was named as a “tentative” site for the proposed swimming pool by village trustees, the committee’s second choice. The first choice was a location in the southeast part of town but money was not available to purchase the land. Village trustees will meet with school officials to discuss a lease held by the school for playing field purposes to make land available for the pool construction. Mrs. A. D. McCallum and Ann were hostesses at a Mother-Daughter holiday coffee Wednesday afternoon with 12 guests present. They were hostesses to approximately 50 guests at a holiday coffee Monday afternoon.
The men of the Shiloh community completed the telephone line which was being built to the Robert Donze farm. Mr. and Mrs. Donze invited the community to an oyster and chili supper Tuesday evening but due to the weather not many attended. Wednesday noon the Donze’s invited all the men on the job to dinner which they enjoyed.
Mr. and Mrs. Ike Engell entertained at dinner Dec. 10 Mr. and Mrs. Ed Novacek, Jim Arenz, Ann, Eddie and Jerry Ruth, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hummel and Mindy, Maureen Tygert and Jerome Arenz. The occasion being Master Kip’s first birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walgren and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnston were hosts at a holiday dance in the Walgren home honoring Miss Carol Smith and Jack Maddux who will speak their vows Dec. 30. Seven couples attended the gay evening in a beautifully decorated setting.
Dr. Vern Hungate of Lincoln was an overnight guest in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce McCallum and family Thursday.

Santa greeted children in Wauneta Saturday when hundreds of children gathered to pay homage to the fine old fellow. Seven hundred and fifty sacks of candy were distributed by Santa and his keepers who were chosen from the Commercial Club.
Mrs. Elmer Kanost and Mrs. Worth Kanost entertained the children of the Cradle Roll and their mothers at a Christmas party in the Methodist church basement Wednesday afternoon. Forty children were present and enjoyed the afternoon of play.
Miss Leota Thomas was tendered a shower at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Myron Williams last Thursday afternoon. Guests were relatives living near here including the Romine and Hardy families near Stratton.
Miss Ruth Morgensen left Tuesday for Edison to spend the holidays at home and also to act as bridesmaid at her sister’s wedding this coming Thursday.
Mrs. Ed Gardner and Mrs. Ralph Hunt called on Mrs. John Green and Mrs. Frank Wiley Friday afternoon.
O. W. Pflum left Sunday morning for Lincoln to attend a school on the corn and hog program..

Mabel McCarty is staying at her grandparents. The Stratton schools being closed on account of diphtheria.
Flora VanScyoc gave a party to a number of her little friends last Friday.
J. A. Dick left Saturday for a business trip to Wilbur, Neb.
Harve Athey was at Holdrege the first of the week attending a meeting of the millers. He reports a good meeting and a good turnout.
It is rumored that Palisade is to have electric lights.
