On Sunday, June 21, Bob Jones of Jennings, Kan., will preside over a “Road Show” at the Chase County Museum. Jones started his career in Bresden, Kan. with the Jones Bros. Auction. He is a third generation part of that auction business which was founded in 1916. He attended Auction School in Kansas City and Appraisal School in Cincinnati. Jones has been appraising for 20 years, and auctioneering for 37 years. He says the best thing about the business is listening to the stories people tell about the objects they want appraised or sold. According to him, an appraiser almost becomes an archeologist as he works through the process of determining appraisal values. The public is invited to bring any antiques or valuables to the museum on Sunday. Jones will provide an expert appraisal for each object, and if a person has nothing they wish to have appraised, watching the appraisal will also be fascinating. Museum hours are 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Jones will be available during those hours for the appraisals. |
