| Accident near Paoli claims life of Enders man |

Carl Bartels, 44, of Enders, Neb., died in a two-vehicle accident 2 miles southwest of Paoli, Colo., on Sunday, Oct. 18. Bartels was traveling west on County Road 22 when his 1993 Chevrolet S-10 struck Richelle Chappell, 26, of Wray, Colo., who was traveling south on County Road 17. According to the Colorado State Patrol, Bartels failed to yield at the uncontrolled intersection and struck Chappell in the left side. Both vehicles went off the southwest corner of the intersection. Bartels’ vehicle rolled three quarters of a time and he was ejected. He wasn’t wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. happell’s 2007 Chevrolet pickup rolled a half time coming to rest on its roof. Chappell was wearing a seat belt and sustained serious injuries. She was taken to Melissa Memorial Hospital. Trooper Mike Hill investigated the accident which is still under investigation. |
