WP/HCU junior high football boys defeat Medicine Valley Raiders in season opener PDF Print E-mail

The Wauneta-Palisade/Hitchcock County cooperative junior high football team opened the 2009 season at home last week with a 28-22 win over Medicine Valley.

The WP-HC team put the first points on the board with a touchdown pass from Alex Whipps to Jake Viox to go up 6-0. Medicine Valley answered back for six points to put the score at 6-6 at halftime.

In the second half WP-HC’s Tyrel Kerchal carried the ball in on a TD run, with Whipps connecting with Hayden Pollmann on the PAT for 14-6 contest.

The Raiders mounted back-to-back scoring drives to take the lead, 22-14. A touchdown run by WP-HC’s Wes Anderjaska pulled them to within two points at 22-20.

Late in the fourth, the home team pulled out a win on a TD pass from Whipps to Pollmann, with a two-point conversion run by Anderjaska taking the final score to 28-22.

The WP-HC players travel to Bartley to take on Southwest on Thursday, Oct. 1. Game time is set for 2 p.m. MT/3 p.m. CT.
