Just as Wauneta area residents today like to kick up their heels during Harvest Fest, in the early 1900s chautauquas and community picnics were held in Wauneta giving everyone a chance to enjoy a summer outing at Wauneta Lake. This year's wheat harvest is all but complete as of Tuesday. Farmers reported some record yields as more than 1.2 million bushels was delivered to Wauneta and nearly 1 million bushels to Palisade. Now the focus shifts towards next year's crop as well as this year's corn crop which is growing leaps and bounds in plenty of heat units recently. Ears are well on their way in this field of dryland corn south of Wauneta.

The Wauneta Breeze
Like the proverbial mustard seed, Ted and Joyce Grimm started with small landscaping projects around Wauneta. In time, the scope of those projects grew along with the number of volunteers pitching in.
Trees the Grimms planted seven or eight years ago are now large enough to cast shade and offer a perch for feathered friends. Now other community members are following Ted and Joyce's lead in helping beautify the town.
